Meet Dr. Cohlmia

Sam Cohlmia, M.D., is a Wichita eye doctor, ophthalmologist and eye surgeon. Dr. Cohlmia is American Board certified in ophthalmology. He specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of disorders and diseases of the eye, including cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, eye trauma and more.

As an ophthalmologist, Dr. Cohlmia is a medical doctor with specialized eye care training. This additional education and experience includes surgical, optical and medical knowledge of the eye and conditions that affect it.

Not only is he a medical professional, Dr. Cohlmia is also a man of faith. His strong religious background and abundant faith in God’s healing hands guide both his practice and his patient care. Compassion, comfort and personal attention are guiding principles at Cohlmia Eye Center.

Dr. Cohlmia is a native of Wichita, Kansas. When he’s not working, he enjoys gourmet cooking, traveling, skiing, jogging, music composition, and wine appreciation.

Education

Dr. Cohlmia graduated from Wichita State University in 1989 with a degree in chemistry. He was a member of the school’s chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1993.

Dr. Cohlmia completed his internship in internal medicine at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita. His residency in ophthalmology was completed at the University of Colorado in Denver.

Professional Experience

Dr. Cohlmia practiced ophthalmology in Beirut, Lebanon prior to opening his own practice here in Wichita in 1997. He’s been treating patients here at Cohlmia Eye Center since then.

Wichita Community Involvement

Dr. Cohlmia places a strong emphasis on helping others, both professionally and personally. Many of his philanthropic efforts support current and future college students.

To that end, the Dr. Sam Cohlmia Outstanding Greek Man and Woman Scholarship was established in 1999. It’s awarded to one male and one female student in a sorority/fraternity.

He has also shared his guidance and experience with younger fraternity brothers, serving as an adviser to the WSU Sigma Alpha Epsilon chapter in addition to two years as adviser to the University of Denver’s chapter.

Dr. Cohlmia has also donated his cooking skills to fundraising events such as Wichita State University’s Shocker Auction. He was a WSU Marcus Welcome Center building project contributor and has served on the WSU Alumni Association Board of Directors.
